Ableton Live 9 Intro Review Part II: LoopMasters MixTape Package

There are four packages that come with Ableton Live 9 Intro, the first one I'm going to review is the LoopMasters MixTape package. The LoopMasters MixTape package has selections of clips, samples, effects, drum instruments, and live sets with prearranged scenes.

My first impression of the LoopMasters MixTape package is that there is quite a bit of stuff included, browsing through the package contents I listened to clips and samples, loaded up the 3 House O Matic - Kit 42 and tapped out a quick pattern on my MIDI controller. I found quite a few sounds that I immediately had ideas for, others were interesting and with the right context could be useful. At first I wasn't sure about the live sets included with the LoopMasters MixTape, but once I loaded a set and started playing around with the scenes using my APC40 I found myself having fun and getting inspired. I guess that is the idea, the live sets are fun to play with, they are a source of information that you can examine and experiment with. I recorded and exported a session I created from an included live set I was messing around with, just a random grouping of a beat I tapped out on my MIDI controller, some clips and other samples from the package, even my new Arturia Microbrute synthesizer, and uploaded the results to my SoundCloud account and embedded below. All of which took about 8 minutes including export.

In LoopMasters MixTape the live sets are under a folder called Construction Kits, a great context for these grouping of clips that really lets you know what they are all about. If you want to get started quickly or need something to fiddle around with to find some inspiration, pull out a live set from Construction Kits and just let go.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase despite the issue I'm having with opening sessions from my Ableton Live Lite 7 version, I'm still hoping to find some resolution to that situation, and will continue to post here on that progress.
