Ableton Live 9 Intro Review Part I

As I indicated in my last post I decided that instead of upgrading my license for Ableton Live Lite 7 to Ableton Live 9 Standard I would instead purchase a new license for Ableton Live 9 Intro. I think that was a good decision, I doubled the number of tracks, scenes and send/return tracks I can have, and am now able to sync my outboard gear to the MIDI time clock. My one disappointment is that I'm having issues using sessions that I created in Ableton Live Lite 7 in Live 9 Intro.

Let me explain, in Live Lite 7 there are effects that where available to use that are not available in Live 9 Intro and what is happening is that when I open these Live Lite 7 sessions in Live 9 Intro saving and exporting are disabled... I haven't had a lot of time to examine this issue, but there is a pop up screen that appears when I open a Live Lite 7 session in Live 9 Intro explaining the why and what is not available in Live 9 Intro verses Live Lite 7. I might just need to removed the offending effects and other pieces, but I have not tried that yet. What I would have preferred happened would be that Ableton Live 9 Intro upon opening a Live Lite 7 session created a copy of the session with the parts not available in Live 9 Intro stripped out. I will investigate this more later and post my findings here.

Once I had Live 9 Intro installed I also downloaded and installed the 4 packs available for Live 9 Intro; Loopmasters Mixtape, Unnatural Selection, Digicussion I, and Designer Drums. I've been slowly going through these packages listening to loops, instruments and clips. There is some good stuff in these packages, and right now I'm a little overwhelmed but I expected that. In addition to acquiring Ableton Live 9 Intro I also purchased an Arturia Microbrute synth, and with all these new distractions my creativity is suffering. What I will probably do is write a review of each package as I explore it over the next couple weeks giving my experience and opinion with each package. I might even create some Sound Cloud tracks to go along with the reviews if I can come up with some stuff that is not too embarrassing, like I said my creative has taken a hit with all these new distractions, and it will take me a while to settle down into my surroundings.
